Sid Meier's games have found their way into the classrooms and living rooms of progressive teachers and learners all over the world. Firaxis products have been used to teach a variety of content such as world history, military strategy and tactics, conflict resolution, economics, political theory, communication and sociology. When asked to comment on this topic, Sid often notes that he has never set out to create an educational game. His goal is always to create a fun and entertaining experience for people by giving them the opportunity to do or be something great. Whether it's becoming ruler of the world, a revered pirate captain, or a successful entrepreneur, he wants players to feel smarter and have a strong sense of accomplishment after playing his games - and have lots of fun in the process.
Sid and Firaxis are thrilled that our games have been embraced by educators around the world. We look to support and encourage that movement by dedicating this section of our website to highlighting and discussing the work of teachers, students, and even some of our employees, who are using games in classrooms at all levels - elementary through grad school. With the invaluable insight and guidance of our esteemed moderators, Dr. Kurt Squire and Lyn Lord, we hope that our teachers' forum will become a gathering place for the global community of educators who recognize the potential for games to transform education.
